Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has revealed, on Sky Sports, that Mesut Ozil is close to agreeing a new deal with the club.
The Gunners have found themselves in the unenviable position of having both Ozil and star forward Alexis Sanchez coming to the end of their current deals and whilst Sanchez looks set to be sold to Manchester United, it looks like Ozil could be set to stay at the Emirates.
Speaking on Sky, Smith said:
Well, my sources tell me he’s quite close to signing a new contract, We’ve not heard much on that. It sounds like negotiations are going on behind the scenes and he will sign.
Getting Ozil to put pen-to-paper on a new deal will be huge for Arsenal as losing two of their best players in such a short space of time would be a massive blow.
If Smith is correct and German international Ozil does extend his contract, then that is one less issue that the club will need to deal with in the summer.
