After seemingly losing the trust of Arsene Wenger last year, and the addition of Petr Cech, Wojciech Szczesny has spent this year out on loan at AS Roma. Szczesny has had a solid, but not spectacular season for an underwhelming team.
Roma have once again underachieved and find themselves fifth in Serie A.
Recently, however, Szczesny has spoken about his desire for Arsenal to win the league this year. Albeit that he not currently playing for the club, as per the Evening Standard, Szczesny still spoke about his fondness and love of Arsenal.
I watch all Arsenal games, of course. And I hope they will be champions, honestly. I spoke to Theo Walcott yesterday and told him they have to win it, but it’s going to make me look like some kind of idiot!
They never won it when I was there and now, ‘Oh look, Szczesny is gone so it’s obvious what the problem was’.
I’m joking, but maybe it’s true after all. I was there for four seasons, there were other goalkeepers before me and they didn’t win the title either.
Although Szczesny is completely right, Petr Cech has been one of the standout players in the league and for Arsenal this year. The 33-year-old has been one of the biggest contributors in Arsenal finding themselves near the top end of the table (now fourth).
Following four poor results, Arsenal have dropped from first and are under serious pressure to keep up with their rivals, facing Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
