According to reports, Arsene Wenger will allow Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky to leave the club in the summer.

All three players are due to be out of contract at the end of the season and Wenger will not renew their contracts. It is understood that Arteta will take up a coaching role at the club following his release. The club captain’s season has been decimated by injuries, and the pace of the game seems to have caught him up.

Rosicky’s career has been blighted by injuries. Arguably the most talented of the three players, the Czech can never sustain a long period of games. Off the bench, he has provided some good cameos, which led to him being a contract extension last year. His most recent injury has seen him be unavailable for the whole season and looks unlikely to get an extension.

Flamini has had fewer injuries than the other two, but has proven his inability to fill Francis Coquelin’s position when called upon. All players are over 30 and Wenger is looking to clear space for new additions.

There have been reports that Wenger is looking to bring in holding midfielders, such as Mohamed Elneny and Grzegorz Krychowiak to take over from Flamini and Arteta. Whether Wenger does bring in new additions, all three players are coming to the end of their careers and cannot match the pace of the games, nor the quality Arsenal need to win a Premier League title.
