Arsenal and Liverpool ahead in the race for Germany star

Premier League interest has been building over Germany international Max Meyer in recent weeks, with Arsenal and Liverpool both having been linked with a move for the playmaker.

The 22-year-old is seen as an ideal replacement for Juventus-bound Emre Can at Anfield, while Arsenal want to add to their creative midfield options following the loss of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United last month.

It’s understood that the Premier League duo are leading the race to sign Meyer on a free transfer because they can out-muscle AC Milan when it comes to putting together a financial package for the midfielder.

Meyer has played in a deep-lying midfield two for Schalke this season but does see himself as a more attack-minded player, scoring 22 goals in 186 career appearances for the club.

Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Meyer, while Barcelona are also being touted with interest.
