Szczesny to leave as Arsenal eye Jordan Pickford

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is on the verge of joining Italian champions Juventus as Arsene Wenger looks to replace him with highly-rated Sunderland shot-stopper Jordan Pickford, according to a report from the Evening Standard.

Szczesny looks to be joining Juventus for £14 million after spending two seasons in the Serie A on loan at Roma, with just one year remaining on his contract at Arsenal.

Roma are disappointed with the news as they were hoping to keep hold of the Polish keeper after he had been impressive during his time at the club, but it seems that he will be joining their rivals.

He will have to wait for a first-team opportunity at Turin as veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon intends to play for another season.

The Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger is a huge admirer of Pickford and wants to bring the goalkeeper back to the Premier League after he was relegated with Sunderland.

With David Ospina expected to leave the Emirates this summer for Fenerbahce, Wenger is keen to bring in a young goalkeeper and it is thought that Pickford is the man he desires.

Pickford was probably the most impressive player for Sunderland in what was a poor season for the club and has been subject to interest from various clubs.
