Despite Chelsea defeat, Arsenal’s (FA) Cup remains half full

Amidst the aftermath of Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea (minus Jose Mourinho no less), there was no shortage of doom and gloom from the club’s supporters.

But let’s not forget, despite losing to the Blues (again), no Arsenal fan in their right mind would switch places with the defending champions, who at this point are just trying not to get relegated.

Like the saying goes:

The past is history. The future is a mystery. Now is a gift. That’s why it’s called the Present. And surely, Arsenal will need to have a short memory because the title is still up for grabs.

And moving forward Arsenal’s biggest remaining matches are Leicester City at home, Manchester United away, Tottenham Hotspur away and City away.

Now there’s no denying that these matches are absolutely massive but when you consider that Arsenal claimed 10 out of the 12 possible points against these clubs earlier in the season, the task doesn’t look quite as daunting.

The remaining 11 games on the Gunners’ schedule provides further cause for optimism.

Seven out of those 11 matches are at the Emirates, where Arsenal’s record is eight won, two draws and two losses. Nine out of those 11 matches are against teams that are currently in the bottom half of the table, including Bournemouth (currently 16th), Sunderland (currently 19th) and Aston Villa (currently 20th).

Then there’s the fact that Arsenal are beginning to get players back for this run. Alexis Sanchez was substituted on in the 2nd half against Chelsea. Francis Coquelin and Tomas Rosicky are available for Arsenal’s fourth round FA Cup match against Burnley and even Danny Welbeck is back in training!

All of this is good news, without doubt. Especially since Arsenal are also in position to win the FA Cup (again) and remain well and truly alive in the UEFA Champions League (although Barcelona await).

Now before anyone uses the word “treble” there is still a long way to go. But that’s the point, Arsenal supporters can’t get caught up in the doom and gloom of last week. There’s still plenty to play for.

Which is more than can be said for Chelsea.
