Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin was injured during the 2-1 defeat to West Brom on Saturday afternoon, as was club captain Mikel Arteta, and that has left the Gunners a bit short in midfield.
According to reports, Arsene Wenger is looking at bringing in another defensive midfielder to help fill the void left by Coquelin, and also to ensure the 24-year-old does not have to play every game when fit.
The first player being linked with a move to the Emirates is Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender. The German international is currently nursing an injury of his own which has led to him missing Leverkusen’s last five matches, but he is set to resume playing before January.

The other player being linked is Sporting’s William Carvalho. The 23-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been linked numerous times with moves to the Premier League, but the Daily Mail believe he is one of Arsenal’s top transfer targets.
Both Leverkusen and Sporting will be keen to keep hold of their star men, so any attempt by Arsenal to take them would likely result in a hefty bid being made.
