Arsenal fans have hit out at one key inclusion in Charles Watts’ Gunners ‘Team of the Decade’.
The well-known Goal journalist Watts was asked to pick his best Arsenal XI from the last 10 years and decided to go with a 4-2-3-1 formation.
He shared his selection on social media on Wednesday, and as he expected, one choice got fans talking.
Twitter: You know that feeling you get when you know you are going to cop a load of flack? Well, I’m feeling it right now…… https://t.co/nNkugOeUEU (@charles_watts)
Watts decided to go with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott as three attacking midfield options in behind Robin van Persie.

This call led to plenty of criticism on social media, with a number of fans hoping to have seen current star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang chosen instead.
Twitter: @charles_watts Auba easily. (@NorthernGunner_)
Twitter: @charles_watts Aubameyang over Van Persie all day long (@KentGooner77)
Twitter: @charles_watts Spot on, but I’ll take Auba any day…never RVP. He was very good, but so good I would take him ove… https://t.co/11N3UwqjJr (@BKGoonerAFC)
Twitter: @charles_watts Aubemayang is probably our best striker since Henry. Weird shout leaving him out and including Walcott (@spokky274)
Twitter: @charles_watts Van persie was surrounded by amazing players. Auba isn’t . Auba is carrying the team on his back imo (@Jamiebornagain)
But who’s been better for the Gunners?
Read Arsenal verdict
As Watts mentions, only two of van Persie’s eight seasons in north London came in the past decade, but they were two free-scoring campaigns.
The Dutchman netted 59 goals in the two seasons, picking up the PFA Player of the Year in 2012.
He sits eighth in the club’s all-time scoring charts, but his decision to leave for Manchester United is still fresh in some fans minds.
Meanwhile, Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s shining light since joining last year from Borussia Dortmund.

The 30-year-old is already just one away from 50 goals for the club, sparking some life into the Gunners’ attack.
He’s played a key role in the change of atmosphere around the Emirates, and the only negative regarding the prolific goalscorer is that he joined the club fairly late into his career.
Both have been great performers for the club, however, purely off van Persie’s controversial transfer up north, we’re with these fans in thinking Aubameyang should have made the side.
