Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is doubtful to face Manchester United on Wednesday evening as he nurses a back injury, according to a report on ESPN.
Ozil was forced to withdraw from Arsenal’s squad for Sunday’s north London derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur after complaining about back pains.
Manager Unai Emery admitted that he never knew much about the injury but he confirmed that Ozil could miss the match at Old Trafford.
Emery said:
Today he was working alone, I don’t know if he’s OK for Wednesday. He’s had a backache since last Tuesday.
He couldn’t play in Kiev [against FC Vorskla] or yesterday. At the moment, I don’t know if he can play in Manchester.
Arsenal head into the fixture full of confidence after tearing Spurs apart at the Emirates, whilst United endured a deflating 2-2 draw against Southampton on Saturday.
The Gunners may be forced to travel once again without Ozil, meaning that former United man Henrikh Mkhitaryan could start.
