Spanish La Liga side Barcelona have stepped up their interest in Arsenal target Pablo Fornals.
As reported on Teamtalk, who quote Spanish news outlet Marca, the Catalan club is plotting a move for the Villareal midfielder.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the highly-rated Spanish international, with manager Unai Emery reportedly being a keen admirer of him.
With midfielder Aaron Ramsey heading for the exit door at the end of the season, Emery is already looking at potential players who could boost his squad, with Fornals being one of the names on his list.
However, they face competition from Barcelona, who have reportedly already made contact with the player’s representatives over a move to the Camp Nou.
Fornals has a €25m release clause in his current deal with Villareal and the 22-year-old is also being monitored by French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain and fellow Premier League club Manchester City.
The midfielder has found the back of the net once in the La Liga this season whilst also registering one assist.
