Sokratis doubtful to face Leicester with fresh ankle problem

Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos is doubtful to play against Leicester City this weekend after suffering an ankle injury whilst on international duty, according to a report on the Evening Standard.

The Gunners are currently assessing the extent of the problem and he could be set for some time out of action.

The centre-back was taken off at half-time during Greece’s 2-1 defeat against Finland on Monday after hurting his ankle.

Sokratis has established himself as one of Arsenal’s best defenders this season and manager Unai Emery is already short on players in that position, with Laurent Koscielny and Konstantinos Mavropanos still unavailable.

Sokratis had an injury scare last month when he was withdrawn during the Premier League match with Everton at the Emirates, but fortunately for him and the Gunners, it was only a dead leg and he made a swift recovery.

They will be hoping for this ankle problem to only be a minor problem, with the full extent of the injury set to be known soon.
