Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette both got on the scoresheet for the first times this season as Arsenal earned a valuable three points by defeating Cardiff City 3-2 at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Having lost two of their opening three games, Arsenal could ill-afford to go into the international break without getting maximum points against Neil Warnock’s side and their two star strikers scored the all-important goals to earn them a hard-fought win.
If truth be told, Arsenal’s defence and goalkeeper have not been entirely convincing this year and as such, it looks like they’ll need to score plenty of goals in order to get themselves into contention for a top-four finish.
The onus to score the majority of those goals will fall on Aubameyang and Lacazette, and rightly so considering the prices that the Gunners paid both Borussia Dortmund and Lyon to get them. The pair have a good relationship both on and off the field and that will be a key factor in any success they have.
Aubameyang’s form during the second half of last season had plenty of observers tipping him to be in contention for the Premier League’s Golden Boot and despite his slow start to the current campaign, he’s now up and running and you can find a bookmaker if you want to back him to win the award.
Lacazette was linked with a move away in the summer as he was not guaranteed a regular starting place at the Gunners but Unai Emery will need the Frenchman and it was the right decision not to let him leave.
Arsenal’s transition away from Arsene Wenger to Emery was never going to be easy and straightforward and the new manager will probably need a few transfer windows to mould the squad to how he wants it but in order to get the time to make changes, he’ll need results and Aubameyang and Lacazette are the player he needs firing in order to get the wins he needs.
