Can Arsenal get their season underway with a win over the champions?

Manchester City dominated the Premier League last season, winning the title with a record 100 points, the highest number of points any side has ever amassed since the competition was first introduced back in 1992.

Arsenal will get their 2018/19 season underway on Sunday afternoon when they welcome the champions to the Emirates and whilst some fans thought the fixture generator had been unkind to the Gunners by giving them such a difficult game first up, this weekend could be the perfect time to face City.

The Champions looked in good touch when they beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Community Shield but Chelsea looked ill-prepared, whereas it is fair to assume that Unai Emery will have his players in much better shape.

City have only just welcomed back the players who made it to the World Cup semi-finals, so it’s fair to assume that the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany, Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker won’t be in peak condition come Sunday and Arsenal need to take advantage of that.

As shown by 888sport, City are still the favourites for the game, but if the Gunners are fast out of the traps, they could catch the champions cold and get the Emery era off to the perfect start in front of a reinvigorated crowd at the Emirates.

There is still a chance that Arsenal could add to their squad before the game on Sunday, with the likes of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele still being linked with the club, but even if they don’t make any new additions, the Gunners look like they have a team that is good enough to beat the champions.
