Premier League side Arsenal are keen to add a new central defender to the squad in the January transfer window and Mainz centre-back Abdou Diallo has emerged as a key transfer target for the Gunners, according to a report on the Mirror.
Diallo only joined the German Bundesliga club last summer but has been impressive during the couple of months that he has played for them.

The ex-Monaco defender has featured in every Bundesliga match this season besides two, which shows that he has become an integral part of the Mainz side.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has scouted the defender and has been impressed with what he has seen. With Per Mertesacker retiring at the end of the season, Wenger knows that he needs to bring in an additional centre-half.
Diallo is still 21 years old and Wenger wants to bring him to the club in the January transfer window because he knows it could take his son time to adapt to the style of play of the north London club.
The Gunners have also been unlucky with injuries suffered by centre-back Shkodran Mustafi which has meant that left-back Nacho Monreal has had to deputise in the middle of defence regularly.
Arsenal face Liverpool on Friday night and could face a difficult task defensively against the forwards of Liverpool.
