Arsenal set to bid for unhappy AC Milan star Bonucci

Premier League side Arsenal are ready to make a bid for unsettled AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci as manager Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his defence in the January transfer window, according to a report on Talksport.

The Italian defender, who made the controversial move from Juventus to AC Milan last summer, is unhappy at the San Siro and Arsenal could offer him a way out in January.

The Italian giants are currently in eight place in the Serie A and Bonucci is not pleased with how the side are progressing. Before the season, they were expected to challenge for the league title but that has not been the case.

The 30-year-old is open to a move to the Premier League and Arsenal are ready to be the first ones to capitalise.

They could face competition from fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City, who were both linked with signing him last summer before Bonucci made the £35m move to Milan.

Wenger has had several defensive concerns this season, mostly due to injuries suffered to German centre-back Shkodran Mustafi.

Per Mertesacker will retire at the end of the season so Wenger needs to find a replacement as soon as possible to ensure he has a strong defensive unit.

Bonucci will add experience and will be a leader, something which Arsenal have lacked for several years.
