Arsenal concerned over Mesut Ozil’s fitness

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is concerned over the fitness of attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil after the German missed the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Burnley on Sunday, according to a report on the Mirror.

Ozil missed the win due to illness and Wenger is still unsure whether the playmaker will recover in time for to face Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.

The doctor came to see me and said he [Ozil] had to travel back home. He was in the hotel with us. He travelled up with us, then travelled back.

Will he be available for Wednesday? Certainly he will be short [of fitness] for Wednesday [against Huddersfield]. We will have to see what it is exactly.

The north London club then host Manchester United on the weekend and Wenger wants to make sure that Ozil is ready for the clash with Jose Mourinho’s men.

Ozil still hasn’t managed to agree a contract extension with the Premier League club and the Gunners are at risk of losing the creative midfielder on a free transfer.

The German is free to begin pre-contract talks with any club he likes in January and Manchester United have been rumoured to be interested in making a move.

However, Ozil will be focused on defeating the Red Devils if he makes the recovery in time.
