No contact from Barcelona as Ozil’s future remains unclear

Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona are yet to approach Premier League side Arsenal over the transfer of attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil, according to a report on the Evening Standard.

The Catalan side are said to be interested in securing the services of the German but no official contact has been made.

Ozil’s current contract with the Gunners expires in the upcoming summer and will be open to discuss a pre-contract with various clubs in January.

The north London club have tried to get Ozil tied down with a contract extension but the playmaker has rejected a deal worth a reported £250,000-a-week.

The 29-year-old is keen to move on and Barcelona are becoming increasingly frustrated at not being able to secure Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, which has led them towards the German international.

Ozil, formerly of Real Madrid, is also a considerably cheaper option for Barcelona as he will available for free in the summer whereas they may need to pay over £130 million for Coutinho.

However, Ozil could be sold by Arsenal in January so they can make some money on him.
