Wenger – What we must do to stop Leicester

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised Leicester City for their ability to counter attack opponents with pace, identifying it as something the Gunners must ‘nullify’ if they want to win on Sunday afternoon.

The north London side face the Foxes at the weekend, with hopes of moving closer to the top of the Premier League leaders, who currently sit five points ahead of the pack.

With the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy the two obvious attacking threats that Claudio Ranieri’s side pose, Wenger, speaking to the media in Friday’s pre-match news conference, believes that while Leicester pose a threat and have confidence because they are top of the league, the Gunners can still dominate the game as they did previously.

The first game we played against Leicester was a very open game. It’s true that their strength is to go very quickly in transition from defence to offence and we have to nullify that pace and counter attacking potential.

We, of course, want to dominate the game and dominate and be dangerous.

They are more convinced of their quality, their strengths, their beliefs. When we played against them before they were top of the table, so that has not changed.

When last the two teams met, Arsenal ran away from the King Power Stadium as 5-2 victors, with an Alexis Sanchez hat-trick the main talking point from the early season loss for the Foxes.
