Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has heaped praise upon his options at left-back, amid talk that Nacho Monreal is ready to sign a contract extension.
The Gunners’ two senior options are the Spaniard and Kieran Gibbs, with Monreal the clear favourite of the two, having started in all but one of the Premier League fixtures this season.
However, Wenger, acting coyly, claimed, as reported by the club’s official website, that he has ‘no first-choice left-back’, instead praising the two and admitting he is spoiled for choice.

The regularity of his performances [is why Monreal is so important], the fact that he has improved every year since he arrived. He is not necessarily my first-choice left back. At the moment he plays more than Kieran Gibbs but I think I’m a bit spoilt there because Gibbs has come back and has shown again on Saturday [that he plays] at a very, very strong level. That makes my decisions at that level very difficult but overall Nacho Monreal has been absolutely outstanding.
Arsenal travel to Liverpool on Wednesday evening to face Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are struggling for consistency this season and currently face an injury crisis Wenger knows only too well.

If the Gunners win, they’ll extend their lead at the top of England’s biggest division.
A loss for Arsenal could see both Leicester City and Manchester City leapfrog them in the league standings, with the two facing in-form Tottenham Hotspur and Everton respectively.
