Wenger – Why Alexis is like a lion

Arsene Wenger has compared Alexis Sanchez’s style of play to a lion hunting its prey.

Now in his second season for the Gunners, Alexis excelled as Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb in the week to keep their UEFA Champions League hopes alive, scoring twice and assisting for Mesut Ozil.

Alexis has made 23 appearances for club and country so far this season, only missing two games after helping Chile win the Copa America in their backyard.

It is unknown whether or not the Chilean will play against Norwich City on Sunday, after he picked up a slight hamstring injury in the Champions League fixture midweek.

However, Wenger refused to say he will rest Alexis.

Spontaneously it might not be the best moment to rest Alexis but I don’t know. He had a little hamstring alarm but we will see how he recovers from that.

I take information, especially from medical people who know him and treat him everyday. After that we will look at his overall recovery as well, but overall when there are alarming signs we want to make the right decision at the right moment.

Wenger also praised Alexis’ style of play, likening his style of play to a Lion… and Jamie Vardy.

His style is very explosive and very committed. [Jamie] Vardy is a bit similar. They go when they go.

They are like the lion, he has to catch the animal in the first 200 metres. If he doesn’t get there, after he’s dead.

They are these kind of killers. When they go, it is to kill and after they have to stop.
