Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has played down recent speculation surrounding a move for Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama in January.
There has been plenty of talk regarding Wanyama’s future, given his antics last summer as he attempted to push through a move to Tottenham Hotspur, however. the Saints held firm and turned down any potential move for the Kenyan.
Wenger, speaking in his pre-match news conference, told the media of his admiration of Wanyama but dismissed any talk of a January move for the Kenyan.

I rate the player but we are not on the case.
Arsenal will battle north London rivals Spurs for the signature of Wanyama, with both January and summer moves an option. Mauricio Pochettino is believed to remain a keen admirer of the 24-year-old and could make a move for him, although it would cost upwards of £20m to take him away from St. Mary’s.
Speaking on transfers generally, Wenger refuted any links to players but admitted he will look for options in January.

I will go out there and see what we can do but at the moment we have a whole December to go in a good position in the Premier League. So it is important for me that we don’t lose more payers because we are short and that everybody contributes fully, like we did on Saturday and Wednesday, and have that consistency in January.
The Gunners face Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, travelling to Villa Park to face former Arsenal midfielder Remi Garde’s side.
